Having a life coach during middle and high school, can be an invaluable tool in helping you figure out who you are, how you fit in the world, and find your passions in life. Below are some frequently asked questions.
Our founder Jenn says it best, “I am a cross between, a big sister, a cool aunt, a therapist, and a teacher.” Life coaching is having a trusted adult to talk to about all the stuff that goes on in life, someone who listens without judgment, helps you work through questions, develop plans, and figure out who you are and who you want to be.
Whatever you want to talk about! Coaching sessions are about you, who you are, what is going on in your life, and what is important to you. Topics discussed can range from friends, romantic relationships, school, grades, tests, family, sports, college, future, and anything else that is important to you. You direct the time we spend together, this is about you and what you want and need.
Anyone can benefit from a life coach, there doesn’t have to be something wrong. Studies show that teenagers who have a non-family member mentor to talk to, are happier, make well reasoned decisions, and adjust better in to the adult world. In our teen years it is imperative we find an adult we can ask questions of, help us work out the big decisions, and get sound advice from someone who has been there and can offer perspective.
The frequency and length of coaching depends on you. Usually we meet weekly for the first couple of months, and then when we have a plan, we move to every other week. The length of the coaching differs by person, some clients meet with a coach for years others a few months or a year or two.
We start with a family meeting, then move to sessions with you and the coach. The first couple of weeks you will take some tests, nothing like particle physics, more along the lines personality, communication and strengths. This helps you and your coach figure out who you are. Then we make a plan together of the areas of life you want to focus on. There will be homework, nothing demanding, usually a few minutes here and there..
